ATRIWA KEKE UNION DEFIES MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH GOVERNMENT, BRUTALIZED TIMASS DGM, MR. SMART UWAKWE.

A tricycle union known as ATRIWA brutalized and almost lynched messengers of the Government on official duty yesterday.
Comr. Smart Uwakwe, the TIMASS deputy general manager had in a press briefing, narrated how the leadership of ATRIWA tricycle union made use of mobsmen to harass and maim TIMASS officers on duty at Isi-gate, Umuahia amidst unlawful detention.
Comr. Uwakwe explained that when he got to the scene of the pandemonium to rescue his men on duty, he met a brick wall that almost took his life and the lives of other messengers of the Government. Subsequent investigations revealed that Comr. Uwakwe's Murano car and other TIMASS vehicles were destroyed by the mobsmen , who acted and played a script handed down by the ATRIWA tricycle union leaders.
When our correspondent interviewed one Mr. Okechukwu, who was at the scene of the ibroglio, Mr Okechukwu gave an eye witness account of what transpired, he concluded by saying and I quote " Since the history of Abia State and the emergence of the first Keke Union in Abia State, such thing has never happened here in Isi-gate ; this is just happening for the first time, and the Government needs to sanction ATRIWA for defaulting her memorandum of understanding with Government."
"I used to be a trader here in Isi-gate for a long time, before the government told us to vacate Isi-gate last year December to Ubani market. Throughout my stay in Isi-gate until we left, such thing has never happened, even when one tricycle union known as ASATOA was operating; frankly speaking, this is a new style" an eye witness who identified herself as Mrs. Blessing Onuoha told our correspondent.
Since yesterday this indecent happened, we have also received diverse reactions from Abians, here in the social media and some radio callers. Some persons are of the opinion that the state Government maintains one Keke Union instead of harbouring multiple Keke Unions with different Keke leaderships,which makes it uneasy for Government to control and checkmate Keke operations in the State, while others are of the opinion that the state Government bans ATRIWA and revoke or terminate their licence of operation.
Our correspondent equally reached out to Comr. Smart Uwakwe who said and I quote " It is unfortunate that a tricycle union like ATRIWA would constitute themselves into such a nuisance group to the society to the extent of assaulting and molesting Government workers on official duty, i urge law enforcement agents to expedite action towards bringing the perpetrators of this inhumane act to book, while waiting for Government action on this matter.
