Some individuals in Abia State are under the impression that there is a rift between Senator Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, due to their father-son relationship.

Nevertheless, these individuals are unaware that family ties are more significant than any other connection.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu held the office of Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007, and numerous individuals from both the new and old Abia grew under his political mentorship and generosity, which earned him the title of 'Iroko' of Abia State politics.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD held the position of Local Government Chairman of Bende LGA under Senator Orji Uzor Kalu's administration and was one of the youngest LGA Chairmen in Abia State.

Furthermore, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD successfully contested for the House of Representatives under the All Progressive Congress in Bende Federal Constituency and emerged victorious, just like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who was elected as a Senator, and both of them secured their seats in the National Assembly in 2015.

At the 9th National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was appointed Chief Whip of the Senate, and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD was named Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity in the House of Representatives. Notably, they are related as father and son.

During the 2023 General Election in Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD successfully contested and won their respective elections under the All Progressive Congress, overcoming the significant Obi Wave that swept some unqualified individuals into public office.

In the 10th National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu vied for the position of Senate President, while Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD sought the office of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Subsequent to the President's intervention, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu withdrew his Senate President bid and backed Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, while his political son, who demonstrated remarkable honesty and commitment, assumed the role of Deputy Speaker; OUK praised the President and National Assembly members for the success of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD as Deputy Speaker.

In a bid to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and end the Labour Party's era in Abia State by 2027, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD are aligned with other APC leaders and chieftains in Abia State.

Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu is impressed with his political son, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu PhD, who is vocal, articulate, and visionary in delivering legislative dividends to Bende Federal Constituency and collectively determined to recover Abia State from the new Abia of propaganda and media hypocrisy.
