Prince Paul Ikonne Commends President for Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road Reconstruction, Blasts Abia Governor for Propaganda Governance

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the ongoing reconstruction of the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road, describing it as a project of great economic and social importance to the people of Abia and the entire South-East.

Speaking in Aba while addressing members of the Abia Liberation Movement (ALM), Ikonne expressed delight over the president’s commitment to infrastructural development across the nation, saying the president has continued to demonstrate genuine leadership and a pan-Nigerian spirit.

Ikonne said the president is looking inward and executing meaningful projects across the country. Having known him for years, he noted that the president remains a man with a true national outlook.

He, however, took a swipe at the Abia State Governor, describing him as “a man of half-truths” who thrives on propaganda and lacks sincerity in governance. While responding to questions from the leadership of the Abia Liberation Movement, Ikonne emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in leadership. He expressed disappointment that the state government has refused to acknowledge the various federal projects being undertaken in Abia.

Ikonne further criticized the state government’s nonchalant attitude toward the welfare of Abia workers and civil servants, noting that despite the removal of fuel subsidy and the huge federal allocations received by the state, workers have yet to feel any tangible improvement in their living conditions. He lamented that Abia receives an average of about ₦38 billion monthly, yet workers’ salaries remain poor compared to other states in the South-East.

He also questioned the integrity of the state government’s infrastructural projects, particularly the alleged remodelling works along the Aba–Owerri Road, which he described as mere cosmetic exercises aimed at inflating costs. According to him, what is being witnessed in Abia today is a “break-and-repaint” administration—one that abandons areas where genuine government intervention is needed and focuses instead on projects that offer room for financial manipulation.

Ikonne urged Abians to remain hopeful and resilient, assuring them that better days are surely ahead as the truth continues to unfold.
