The Ministry of youth and sports Development under the leadership of the vibrant Hon commissioner IKWUAGWU Emeka Georege and his team decided to embark on the first of its kind school sports outright involving inline with Governors instruction to involve all goverment accredited private schools and all government schools.
The competition will feature 18 sporting events so selected under the watchful eyes of the sports council who are part of the central organizing committee.
These events will feature as follows:
BADMINTON, HANDBALL, FOOTBALL, CHESS, SCRABBLE, VOLLEY BALL, BASKET BALL, CRICKET, WRESTLING, HOCKEY, TAEKWONDO, TABLE TENNIS, TENNIS,
ATHLETICS-100M, 200M, 400M, 1500M,4X100M, 4X400M RELAYS,
LONG JUMP, HIGH JUMP, DISCUS, SHOTPUT, JAVELIN.
The competition will involve male and female categories in both primary and secondary schools respectively, to be conducted in the local level, zonal level and finals in the state capital.
The ministry cannot achieve this great feat without the involvement of the ministries of Education, Health, Information, Transport, Homeland security, NAPPS, ABSAA, ASUBEB, SEMB, Sports Council, ANCOPS, COPSHON, NAPHER-Sd, Nig Police, Road Safety, Civil defence, Government house Protocols, SWAN, Football Association of Abia state, FLo FM, BCA , GREINMASTERS LTD, FACE OF INDEPENDENCE,THE 18TH HOUSE.etc.. Which formed the members of the Central Organising Committee.( COC), While the local organising committees are made up of all local government Sports officers, Education officers and Education Secretaries, the Local Reps of the National Youth Council and the Community of community associations.
The LOC will coordinate the affairs at the grassroot ensuring full participation.
The sports loving Governor of Abia state has graciously approved officially the project and has gone ahead to approve the supply of 600 six hundred units of Table Tennis Boards to encourage this sports in schools and a way of giving state support.
We aimed at distributing and bringing to grassroots every other sporting event, giving equal opportunities for participation with the sole objective of discovering talents and giving a life and a hope out of it.
Speaking at the series of COC meetings which yesterday's was the 4th time, the Commissioner assured the house that the competition will not be a success if we fail to discover the likes of Chukwuezi, Chioma Ajunwa, kanu Nwankwo, Gloria Alozie, Chidi Imo, Innocent Egbunike late etc.
We are expecting in the opening event coming up in march which date will be officially announced, the minister of youth and sports and his colleague in Education ,the National sports commission and all the commissioners of youths and sports in the 5 Eastern States to be in attendance.
It is going to be the greatest school sporting event in Abia state.
The logo(mascot) and jiggle of TASSSF shall be unveiled by the Chief Sports Promoter ,the sports loving Governor Okezie Ikpeazu PhD at a date to be officially announced while the main tournament kicks off in match in line with the Abia state school calendar.
Aside the awards to winners and distinguished skills identified and participating schools, local and over sea scholarships..We expect that the best school in the competition amongst others will have an indoor sports hall built and reasonable equipped as a gift.
We therefore call on sponsorship from companies, industries, corporate bodies, stakeholders, individuals, philanthropists ,banks etc as we are expecting to have over 15000 students and pupils in attendance.
