UMUIKAA/UMUENE ROAD: I"LL DELIVER THE ROAD BEFORE 30TH OF SEPTEMBER....IF, CONTRACTOR



The Contractor  handling the 14.8 kilometer road Umuikaa/Umuene road in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State, has pledged to deliver the road before 30th of September this year if the bulk of the money for the project is released to him by the state government.

Mr Onuoha Uzoma Emeka, Managing Director, Smuth Edge Integrated Services Limited, who was interacting with Quick Reporters during an inspection of the road, said since 2019 he commenced work on the site, paucity of fund, has been a major setback.

He stated that when he first came on site, the road was in a deplorable state, unpassable for motorists and other road users, adding that he also met enormous challenges when he was constructing drainages which ranged from resistance of traders at the Omoba market to residents.

Mr Emeka hinted that he also faced the challenge of developing the Umuosu axis of the road as it had a deep bunker caused by the Nigerian civil war of 1967 to 1970, pointing out that a lot of resource was spent filling up the area. He said the Ntigha Uzo down to Umuikaa area of the road equally failed completely when he arrived the site.

Mr Emeka however, commended youth from the areas for the dedication and commitment they have put up since 2019 when construction of the road commenced, stressing that an average Ngwa youth is accommodating , friendly among others.

He reassured the Abia State government that he will do a quality job on the road as he had always done, pleading with the State government to release funds to enable him deliver the road before the 30th of September, 2020.                     

On his part, an indigene of Isiala Ngwa South and President Youth 4 Youth, Comrade Ebere Davidson, said before now, the road was in a deplorable condition, commending the contractor handling the road for the massive work he has done since coming to site.
