The European Union Parliament has criticized the Buhari-led government of Nigeria in its latest report released in January, 2020. The EU also lamented the persecution of Christians in the northern Nigeria by Sharia militias who also discriminate against the Christians.

In the report, the European Union also accused President Buhari of negligence in the deterioration of the situation in North-East Nigeria as the report claimed that all efforts of Non Governmental Organisations have been frustrated by Buhari and his staff due to political reasons.

The European Union described the situation as an 'ethnic cleansing' of a group of people, while calling on President Buhari to take actions to curb the situation if not, in the words of the report, 'the stability of Nigeria is in danger.
