DEPLORABLE STATE OF NMURI BRIDGE: ABIA DEPUTY SPEAKER MAKES CASE FOR URGENT ATTENTION.

Moved by the out cry of his constituents over the poor state of the nmuri bridge in Ebem Ohafia, the Abia state Deputy Speaker who represents the people of Ohafia South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu today at the floor of the house moved a motion of urgent public importance on the deplorable condition of Nmuri Bridge and the need for urgent government intervention in order to avert imminent loss of lives and properties.

According to the Deputy Speaker, the nmuri bridge is a very important bridge linking Ohafia Local Government Area with Arochukwu, Bende and Umuahia North LGA through Abam axis of which  the continues use of the deadly bridge by commuters poses a great danger and threat to lives and properties of our people.

Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu noted that the bridge is in the advanced state of despair, deadly and near collapse and hence urgent need for remedy.

He prayed that the house should urge members of the National Assembly from the affected Area to enjoin or mandate the Federal Road Maintenance Agency and the Federal Ministry of Works to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the bridge pending the time for the full reconstruction. The house granted this prayer while the clerk was mandated to do the needful in communicating to the Federal Agency (FERMA).

Also at the floor of the house today, motion of urgent public importance was moved by the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha over the reoccurring land dispute between the people of Isu community in Arochukwu and their neighbors from Cross Rivers State. 

According to Hon. Mike, the land dispute claimed another live yesterday as he was informed but the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji in his response stated that he had already made contact with the police to immediately move to the disputed area to forestall further loss of lives and properties pending the time the house will come up with her resolution on the subject matter.

HAB 13 - The Abia State Orientation Agency Bill 2019 which is sponsored by the Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Barr. Solomon Akpulonu was committed to the house committee of the whole for further deliberation to iron out areas of conflicts.

The house adjourned to reconvene tomorrow, the 4th day of February, 2020 by 10:00am.
